Dhakuria is located on the southern part of the city kolkata and babubagan is in the heart of Dhakuria. While coming down from sealdah after ballygaunge comes dhakuria. It is heared that a big firm house of tagore family was located here(Babuder bagan), then after it got the name “Babu bagan”. The development of babubagan can be traced back to the early fifties & sixties, when a large iflux of refugees had started from Bangladesh. With the development of Dhakuria the area started getting an upmarket look. Well educated middle class people prefer to stay in and around babubagan because of its neighbourhood & proximity to the proper city.
Babubagan is always known for its cultural heritage and sports activity. In late fifties and early sixties, the area was narrowly populated. Lots of open space with lush green fields and water bodies was the geography of Babubagan. Going back to 1962 when a group of young boys understood the demand of the locality and started doing community durga puja very close to Binodini girls school. This is how durga puja of Babubagan started. Slowly this puja started gaining name and fame and due to paucity of space, the committee was rather complled to shift the durga puja from the side of Binodini girls school to shahid Trekeswar Sen Park( known as Babu bagan park)in the year 1982.
For years together we celebrated Durgotsav in purely traditional form, with new creative ideas and fantastic décor. Lacs and lacs of people in and around kolkata thong the puja pandel and spoke very high about the traditional form. Slowly things have changed. We have now shifted to theme based puja during the last 2-3 years. Nothing came platter for Babubagan club which only steeled the character and made us even more determined to stand out among the many. Dhakuria Sabojonin Durgotsav organized by Babubagan got the registration in the year 1999 and the Durga puja came to lime light from the early eighties.
The committees triumph of winning the prestigious Asian Paints Sarad Samman in consecutive years of 1989 and 1990. Further laurels awaited the club after establishing unique performance of winning all major awards related to Durga Puja.
